Dubai’s Attorney-General, Eissam Issa Al Humaidan, has ordered that an Arab
national, in his 40s, be referred to the Court of First Instance to face trial
on the charge of raping a job aspirant he had called to his flat for an
Al Humaidan recommended that the most severe punishment, which could be capital
punishment, be inflicted on the defendant so that he would be a lesson for
others who might dare to commit such immoral crimes.
Youssef Foulaz, Deira Chief Prosecutor, said the sequence of events leading to
the incident started in January when a woman visitor read an advertisement
about a vacancy for a secretary’s position in a local paper.
The visitor called on the number posted in the ad and the defendant, who had
posted the ad, asked to meet him to see whether she was suitable for the job.
The woman went to the address, which turned out to be an apartment in a
building in Naif. As soon as she entered the flat, the defendant locked the
door and began asking her about her qualifications and experience in the
Soon, he started showering her with flirtatious praises. Scared, the woman
tried to leave but the accused grabbed her and dragged her inside and raped her
despite her resistance and screams for help.
The prosecution began investigating into the incident when the complaint was
referred to it by the police. Naif Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Hussein Al Hammadi
overlooked the investigation.

Al Humaidan stressed that the prosecution would not tolerate anyone who
violated the enforceable laws in the country. He concluded that the security
and judicial authorities are solidly united to eradicate such crimes that are
strange to the society.
