A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Sokoto State, Alhaji Muktar Mapia, has called on the National Assembly to enact a law prescribing the death penalty for any person engaged in terror attacks in the country.
Mapia told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Sokoto that the law would sanitise the nation and deter terror gangs.
He said the nation's corporate existence was being threatened by such unscrupulous elements.
"The nation is in urgent need of a law that will ensure capital punishment for any person or group of people found sponsoring terrorism activities,'' the PDP chieftain stated.
He urged Nigerians to rise up and defend the unity of the country, for peace, progress and political growth.
Mapia, who is the Deputy Treasurer of the party, called on Nigerians to always report suspicious characters to the nearest security outfits.
He also called the government to equip the security outfits with modern facilities, to enable them to confront the nation's security challenges.
