Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has denied clemency to death row inmate Edwin Hart Turner, who is scheduled to die by lethal injection Wednesday evening at the State Penitentiary at Parchman.
Turner still has petitions to stop the execution before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mississippi Department of Corrections spokeswoman Suzanne Singletary says Turner spent the day visiting with his mother, LaDonna Turner, and other relatives.
He requested a last meal of Porterhouse steak, medium rare, fried shrimp with cocktail sauce, Texas toast, and salad with Russian dressing, a pack or red Twizzlers candy and sweet tea.
Corrections officials said they're preparing to execute Turner after a federal appeals court panel vacated an order blocking the execution earlier in the day.
Turner has been talkative while visiting with his relatives.
